Introducing Contentcontent content

The VU Collaborate Content tool is used to view, add, edit and organise course materials such as readings, lecture notes, audio and video recordings and other content. Using the Content tool you can:

  • Bring content in from existing sources and export it for reuse later
  • Link materials to discussions, quizzes and assessment dropboxes
  • Release content selectively and track which modules have been completed


Term Meaning
Module A module is a content grouping, like a folder. Content could be organised by topic, by week or by theme.
Sub-module A sub grouping within a module, such as a sub topic or topics within weekly modules.
Drag and Drop This refers to uploading files by selecting a file and dragging it into the highlighted ‘drag and drop’ area, and releasing it
Completion tracking Allows you and your students to track which content has been visited within the Space

Finding Content


You can access Content from the View Content quicklink on your Space homepage, or from the Content link in the navbar.

Content Features


  1. Search Topics
  2. Unit Overview –you can enter a brief unit overview and/or upload a unit overview file
  3. Bookmarks – lists the topics you’ve bookmarked
  4. Upcoming Events – lists unit material due dates and other unit events
  5. Table of Contents – lists all unit materials per module

  1. Numbers indicate how many items are in each area or module
  2. Module currently in view
  3. Content in current module: pdf, ppt, doc, webpage and quiz
  4. Drag and drop area *
  5. Add a module – enter text to add a module
  6. Add a sub-module – as per module
  7. Completion tracking – can be tracked automatically (ticked upon first visit by student), manually (students must tick the tickbox) or not at all
  8. Dropdown menus (see below for detail)

* This feature only works in Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 10 onwards and Mozilla Firefox 23 onwards

Dropdown Menus

Using the dropdown New, Add Activities and More Actions menus located in the content panel you can add links to tools and activities and manage your content.

Use the New menu to create new content or learning activities


Use the Add activities menu to add links in your module to learning activities that you have previously created


More actions allows you to bulk edit, download and manage the module
