The information in this guide is intended for Instructors, Space Convenors, and Teaching Convenors.

Embedding a Library Video

Online videos can be embedded in VU Collaborate using EMBED codes provided in video databases. This guide focuses on how to find online/streaming videos using the Library’s database search, how to locate embed codes in two key video databases (Kanopy and Alexander Street Press) and how to embed videos in VU Collaborate.

Kanopy Database

Step One: Find Kanopy Database

Go to the VU Library home page.

Click on Databases A to Z.

Type Kanopy in Search databasesSearch by name box.

Click on Search.

In the Kanopy description page, click on Kanopy (at the top of the page) or Connect to: Kanopy (at the bottom of the page).

Step Two: Search for a video in Kanopy Database

 

Enter keyword(s) or title in the Kanopy Search box.

Click on Search.

Click on the title of the video that you want.

Step Three: Find Embed Code

When the selected video page has loaded, click on the EMBED tab (located below the video player).

Copy the entire code.

Step Four: Embed Video Code in VU Collaborate

In VU Collaborate, select the required module in your unit.

In Content, click on New and select New Document.

Click on </> icon at the bottom of the Create a Document screen.

In HTML Source Editor, select all of the text and delete it.

Paste in the embed code previously copied from Kanopy.

Click on Save.

Click on Publish.

Note: if the video doesn't appear, you may have to click on the grey security shield in the URL (address) bar of your browser (Firefox or Chrome) and choose the option to load unsafe script/allow non-secure items on the page.

Alexander Street Press Database

Step One: Find Alexander Street Press Database

Go to the VU Library home page.

Click on Databases A to Z.

Type Alexander Street Press in Search databasesSearch by name box.

Click on Search.

Select a link for the appropriate collection from the list (e.g. Education in Video).

Step Two: Search for a video in Alexander Street Press Database

Enter keyword(s) or title in the Alexander Street Press Search box.

Click on the searchbutton search button.

Click on title of the video that you want.

Step Three: Find Embed Code

When the selected video page has loaded, click on the Embed/Link tab (located below the video player).

Copy the entire code.

Step Four: Embed Video Code in VU Collaborate

In VU Collaborate, select the required module in your unit.

In Content, click on New and select New Document.
